WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade items also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will display a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrader mod. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level Upgrade level will be less expensive, even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. It is Best item upgrade to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
