Item upgrade, commonly known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.

Most upgrade components inserted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your gear, you can move it to a different piece of gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can remove the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is installed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be recovered using the glyph shards.
A glyph added to an item can cause it to be unstable, and the shards of the glyph will disappear from your inventory when you take it down. Reroll tokens can also be a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon that can be upgraded to increase damage or additional perks.
Rerolled items do not appear in the menu of upgrade options, however they are still able to be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item. The amount is based on the item's rarity and also its level.
