WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the Item Level upgrade's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item level upgrade upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items come from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an Best item upgrade that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
