1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors aren't firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). 4. ECU

5. Tachometer
