Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Item Level

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the item level is determined. One theory states that the item level is calculated by an equation that determines the worth of an item's stats really are. Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade item gauges similar to other rerolling methods.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item upgrader kit basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in early game runs than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of the item up to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shops or made using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade item. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
